al-Qasas
This Makkan surah revealed while Prophet was on hijrah /migration and deals primarily with the mission, struggle and ultimate success of Prophet Musa /Moses.
- The detailed history of Moses, his protected infancy, his pure youth, his intellectual genius, his military training, his exile and his eventual success. This is also contrasted with the arrogant, privileged, powerful, brutal Pharaoh who maintained authority through the policy of divide and rule as well as his eventual defeat (1-43)
- The fact that this history is preserved through revelation (44-46)
- Prophet Muhammad encountered similar challenges (49) as Prophet Moses (47-55); both
- grew up in ?¢‚ǨÀúthe house' of the rulers
- challenged he authority of the day
- conveyed a message opposed by their people
- had miracles demanded of them
- had to migrate
- eventually victorious over the ruling power of their day
- Excessive attachment to material world is often the cause of people's non-commitment to truth. Greater means could provide more opportunity for giving vent to desire, and note that all of the material world and even the life spent in pursuing it are only temporary. (56-61)
- Believers are advised (77-88) ?¢‚Ǩ¬¶
- Seek Hereafter through your deeds in this world
- Neglect not your life in this world/ la tansa nasibaka min as-dunya
- Best of Hereafter attained not through ?¢‚ǨÀúuluww /self-exaltation nor through fasaad /corruption
- Follow the Divine Guidance
- Do not contaminate your faith by associating partners with Allah
Reference to the potential dangers of the combined forces of political, financial and military authority as exemplified in the authority in charge at the time of Prophet Moses; power (Pharoah ?¢‚Ǩ‚Äú political sovereign), wealth (Qarun/Korah ?¢‚Ǩ‚Äú head of the treasury) and military (Hamaan ?¢‚Ǩ‚Äúhead of the army)
Al-?¢‚ǨÀúAnkabut
A Makkan revelation that emphasizes; not only the distinction between the faithful and the disbelievers, but also distinguishes the truly faithful from those who are mere claimants to faith.
- Be rest assured that life will serve as a test of faith and principles, that goodness begets goodness, that wrongfulness has negative consequences. Kindness to parents is emphasized and the attitude of hypocrites are exposed. (1-13)
- History of Prophets Nuh, Ibrahim, Shu'ayb, Hud, Saleh, Musa related, the humiliating loss of Pharoah, Hamaan, and Qarun mentioned, and the fact that each person earns the reward or punishment that he/she will receive (14-40)
- Frail ideologies are like the web of a spider, seemingly beautiful though actually a trap, serving the function of a trap; and is in reality very and weak indeed. (41)
- Revelation meant to be read, understood and implemented; establish prayer for it is a means of keeping one from evil and corruption (42-45)
