As-Saba'
This Makkan surah is titled after the People of Saba' / Sheba {and the Sabaeans refered to in the Qur'an (Q2:62) may be the believing folk among these people} who once had a queen (Bilqis) with whom Prophet Sulayman communicated (see Q27:22). Though the People of Sheba reached great power and glory, they were eventually devastated due to their ingratitude. The primary lesson being that people should be guard against falling into evil ways because of wealth and power.
- Glory to Allah, Creator and the Ultimate Knower. Worldly deeds have consequences in the Hereafter.-4)
- Those who deliberately oppose the truth and who insult or falsely accuse the Prophets are reprimanded. (5-9)
- Prophets Dawud /David and Sulayman /Solomon were blessed with authority, wealth, resources and glory; yet they remained servants of Allah and were of the thankful. In contrast, the People of Sheba were granted power, wealth and glory but ended up devastated due to their ingratitude. Those who associate others with Allah should know that that which they associate can not be compared to Allah. Allah is the ultimate Judge and the Definer the truth, whereas the Prophet is a conveyor of Divine message (10-33)
- Neither wealth nor progeny is a measure of superiority, but it is good deeds that count. We are reminded about the inadvertency of the Day of Judgment and advised to follow the revelation (34-39) and made aware that The Truth has arrived, and Falsehood neither creates anything new, nor restores anything .
Faatir
This Makkan chapter takes its title from the word faatir appearing in verse 45 and refers to the divine attribute ?¢‚Ǩ?ìThe Originator?¢‚Ǩ¬ù, which also sheds light on the main theme underlying this chapter.
- It opens with reference to Allah as the Originator and Perpetuator of all existence and calls upon people to reflect ?¢‚Ǩ¬¶ on the various creations, on the life stages of natural things and on the provisions made available through His Grace. We are advised not to be deceived by this world, nor to indulge in evil, but to follow the truth and do what is right. (1-10)
- Ponder over human origin, progeny; reflect on Allah's authority and His provisions; the waters and their purpose, the workings of the cosmos; to appreciate the Divine blessings we enjoy. (11-18)
- Use your faculties to choose the path of light rather than to wallow in darkness. Be not a denier of the Messages delivered by Prophets, rather be of those who pray and are a source of benefit. (19-38)
- Human being are vicegerents of God and each is responsible for his/her own deeds and all will be held accountable according to heir deeds. (39-45)
